This post will explain how to do cable crossovers up to 8 stitches wide, we don't recommend going any wider on your knitting loom as it begins to become quite difficult and not look right.

The simplest cable crossover is just with two stitches, you simply pull the two loops off the pegs and cross them over, as the cables get larger you will need to do some prep in the previous row to ensure you have enough yarn to do the crossover.

When reading these diagrams Steps 1 and 2 happen in the previous row, you wrap a couple extra times and knit those stitches along with the rest of the row. Then on your next row when you come back across those stitches, you do the crossover, and then knit over the crossover as normal.

You can do both a left and right crossover:
For a right crossover simply pull the left side loops off the pegs- put them on the yarn needle that comes with your loom, a stitch holder or cable needle to keep them in order. Then move your right hand side loops over to the now empty left pegs (so they will be crossing in front) and then move your left side loops from their stitch holder onto the now empty pegs of the right side.

For a left cable crossover you will do the reverse- removing the right side first, putting it on a stitch holder, and then move the left stitches over to the right side.

All the diagrams below show the Right Cable Cross.

For all your different cable sizes the basic process is the same, the thing that changes is how to prep the previous row so that you have enough yarn to make larger and larger cables.

There is also a video at the bottom demonstrating these crossovers with hints and tips to make your life easier.

Two Stitch Cable Crossover on Knitting Loom

This one is super simple, simply pick up the two stitches you want to cross over, and switch which pegs they wrap around. Be sure to cross them the right way and don't twist your stitches! For a right cable cross move the right loop first. For a left cable cross move the left loop first.

Four Stitch Cable Crossover

 1)    When you are working the row previous to the cable cross, you'll want to wrap the outer pegs twice to give yourself some extra yarn to perform the crossover.
 2)     Knit that row as usual- pulling over both of your wraps.
 3)    When you're finished with that row, before you knit the next row, grab the top loop on the pegs you've wrapped twice

 4)    Pull that loop up over the top of the peg
 5)    Unravel it so that it forms one large loop
 6)    Tug each loop in the cable to spread out that excess yarn evenly

 7)    Lift your loops off their pegs- for a right cable cross place your left half of loops on a stitch holder. For a left cable cross place your right loops on a stitch holder.
 8)    For a right cable cross bring those right loops over to the left side, ensuring that you maintain the same order so they correspond to the same peg number- 1 on the right moves to 1 on the left, etc. For a left cable cross, move your left side loops over to the right side.
 9)    Follow up by crossing the other side over. Now you can knit your next row as normal.

Six Stitch Cable Crossover

You're going to follow roughly the same process as with the 4 Stitch Cable Crossover but you will need to ensure that you double wrap the outer two pegs on each side of your cable so you have enough yarn to make that larger crossing.

Eight Stitch Cable Crossover

This one is a doozy, and can be a bit tight to pull over.
Hint-snug up your stitches as you cross them over to work that excess yarn across to where you need it.
And with this cable- we double wrap all the pegs so you don't need to worry about evening out the excess yarn prior to crossing.
