Knit any sock, any size, any yarn using the sock percentage system.

Long-time sock knitters know a secret. The secret is: you don’t need a specific pattern to knit every sock. You can knit a sock with a general plan and every sock will work out perfectly.

The Sock Percentage System

This is the secret. All the stitch numbers are laid out as percentages of the number of stitches cast on. You don’t have to dig out your calculator just yet. To make it stress-free we have provided charts that translate those percentages into stitch counts.

Important Numbers

First, establish the number of stitches to cast on. This book includes a chart where you will find the number of stitches to cast on. It’s based on the gauge of your yarn and the size, according to shoe size, of the socks you wish to knit.

Second, you can determine all of the numbers for your sock from the number of stitches cast on. The number of stitches you cast on is 100% of the stitches. The important numbers are 50% of the cast-on stitches and 25% of the cast-on stitches. Remember these two numbers and the sock knitting world is yours.

For example, if you cast on 64 stitches, the important numbers are 50% of 64 sts = 32; and 25% of 64 sts = 16. Ta, da. That's it. Those are the two numbers you need to knit your sock.

Many Gauges

To enable you to make these perfect socks in any weight of yarn you have on hand this book includes a chart for many gauges of yarn. You can make very fine socks in the thinnest of sock wool, medium weight house socks to wear as you curl up on the couch or heavy duty work socks to keep feet warm on the coldest of days.

Socks are for Everyone

Doesn’t everyone deserve hand-knit socks? Included you'll find all the sizes from a wee baby to large men’s socks. Watch out! You will be extremely popular as the sock knitter for your loved ones.
