MaggiKnits Fashion Show

Friday: Fashion Show from 6pm-8pm

We will kick things off with refreshments, followed by an exciting fashion show with models showing nearly 40 garments. Maggie will be explaining the designs, offering tips for different sizes and ages, including how designs can be worn in a variety of styles. Maggie will also use her 34 years of experience as a leader in fashion design to demonstrate which yarns suit which styles, complementing the drape and the hang. After the show you will have the opportunity to try on the outfits, with Maggie’s personal advice on your individual style and color and maybe even an Irish joke or two!

Maggie’s mantra of “Be Different . Be Bold. Think Outside The Box” permeates the entire weekend by helping you take your knitting in a whole new direction, including tips on designing and even simple ideas worked from squares.

Saturday: Oh No Not Another Scarf – from 10am to 4pm.

We will be creating all day with Maggie’s signature stitches like rag knot, tubes, splits, and the ladder stitch. You will create a sampler piece that can be turned into a scarf, purse or table runner. This project will be your special creation and design, with the guidance of Maggie and her unique ideas. Plus, you’ll learn the additional finishing techniques necessary to make your project an amazing success. Also tips she learned from having 45 knitters in Ireland when she did Ready to Wear.

Sunday: Wearable Art from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm

Learn new stitches taking you beyond the previous workshop, Maggie takes you several steps further and teaches you even more of her interesting textures, stitches, and techniques with great ideas on using up your stash and mixing it with new yarns. Ramping things up a notch, you’ll learn how to incorporate other materials to expand your creativity with 2 colored frilled tubes, bows, 2 colored picot tubes and much more. Maggie will help you broaden your horizon and create a whole new style of knitting! This class is also open to intermediate knitters by itself.

What if I l don’t live in the area?

Many of us who live in or frequent Big Bear know of its beauty and relaxing, fun filled atmosphere. If you and your knitting friends would like to attend our MaggiKnits Weekend Extravaganza, think about staying at the Pine Knot Guest Ranch where the wonderful owners, Larbie and Gloria, have their own llamas and bunnies nearby for you to visit! Or think about renting a cabin for a bunch of you. There are specials on lodging during the Fall. Here are some activities you could also think about while you’re here.

If flying you will want to fly in to Ontario Airport, rent a car and make your way up to Big Bear which is about 1 ½ hours away. We planned our retreat in September so that you can enjoy the beautiful fall weather before our snow skiing season rolls in.
