Today I will show you how to use your knitting loom to create a Dropstitch, otherwise known as a double E-Wrap and Knit. Dropstitches are an easy and simple way to add visual interest to your loom knitted item as well as work in a lot of length quickly. And, it's oh so simple. I've used drop stitches in my Bulky Dropstitch Hat and Cowl pattern.
- Wrap each peg 2 times as you move along the loom. Each peg will have 3 loops when finished.
- Bring the bottom loop over the top 2 loops.
- Create the elongated drop stitch by lifting the top loop off each peg. This releases the double loop into one large open loop, or dropstitch. Push these open loops down on the pegs as you work to prevent them from coming off the loom.
You're done! No really thats it, here's a video if you don't believe me.
Bonus: Another way to do your drop stitches.
If you're having trouble with pulling that top loop off because your yarn is all mashed together or splits easily- try this method.
- E-Wrap your first peg once.
- Knit your first peg
- E-Wrap that same peg again, and then E-wrap your next peg
- Knit your next peg
- Repeat steps 3-4 until finished with your round or row.
- Create the elongated drop stitch by lifting the top loop off each peg. Give your work a gentle even tug to coerce your two loops into one large open loop. Push these open loops down on the pegs as you work to prevent them from coming off the loom.
