My Love Affair with Urth Yarns and Superwash Merino
Have you ever picked up a skein of yarn and instantly fallen in love?
That’s exactly what happened to me when I first got my hands on Urth Uneek Worsted.
The colors were mesmerizing, but the feel of the yarn—oh my goodness! Soft, bouncy, and so smooth—I knew I had to find the perfect project for it.
I’d been eyeing the Koza Cocoon Wrap by Catherine Salter Bayer for a while, and this felt like the perfect opportunity to give it a try.
As I started knitting, I was blown away by how this yarn worked up. It glided on my needles effortlessly, the superwash merino feeling almost cotton-like in its softness, but with a wonderful stretch and bounce.
It was everything I wanted in a worsted weight yarn—cozy, durable, and so incredibly soft that I found myself constantly stopping to squish my stitches.
What Makes Superwash Merino Yarn So Special?
I’ve worked with a lot of yarns over the years, but superwash extrafine merino has some qualities that make it an absolute standout.
-
It’s Crazy Soft – I mean, really, REALLY soft. Even if you have sensitive skin or find regular wool itchy, this is a game-changer.
-
Machine Washable – That’s right! Unlike regular wool that can felt in the wash, superwash merino can go in the machine without worry. (Perfect for sweaters, scarves, and anything that gets a lot of love!)
-
The Colors Pop – The superwash treatment enhances dye absorption, which means these colors are deep, rich, and totally eye-catching.
-
Elastic & Drapey – It’s got just the right amount of stretch and drape to make garments fit beautifully and move with you.
