Gypsy Chic Boho Crocheted Circular Vest Pattern

Quick Overview

This pattern is inspired by my hippie days and brings back the nostalgia and freedom of my youth. But it's also a great contemporary pattern as the 60's fashions come back. This vest is so fun to wear, the way it drapes and flows around you, I guarantee you will love the sensation.

Every time I wear this vest out people stop me in the street to comment on how amazing it is.

Not only is it super fun to wear, its great to make. It's made completely in the round, and I love making it so much I've made 7 different versions, in different colors, and yarn weights! This pattern is for a DK weight yarn and we have many color choices for you.

There are also a ton of ways to wear this vest, you can see a few I've put together above. One of the easiest ways to change the look is to change the way you wear the collar, you can bunch it up and have it on top of your shoulders so the ruffles frame your chest area and your shoulders are visible (fig 1& 3), or drape the collar over your shoulders so that they are covered and the design hangs down, showing off your lace work (fig 4 &5).

Recommended Yarns:
Kraemer 'Belfast' for a soft natural color (you will need about 6 skeins)
Caron 'Simply Soft Yarn 6oz'. for a solid vest (you will need about 5 skeins)
Mary Maxim 'Prism' for a Self Striping multicolored look (you will need about 5 skeins)

Materials you will need:
● 1,320 yards DK weight yarn for the small size (noted as a "3" yarn). (The Grey/white fleck small example is made in Kraemer "Belfast" (a linen blend) in the color "Peat" - DK weight, 220 yds per skein, I used 6 skeins.) Add several hundred yards for larger sizes. Keep in mind 220 yards only makes 2 - 3 lace finishing rounds.

● Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook - I prefer Soft Touch as it is very comfortable for this larger project.

Attachable stitch markers to mark row beginnings.

The pattern is written for a small size with directions for making vest larger (this vest looks great on many body shapes-continuing with rounds at the end will make it longer and wider around your body). The vest is approximately 48" long and fits up to at least a 40" bust. If you are petite, you may want to consider taking 2 rounds off the bottom (stop at Round 33). The model in this photo is 5'1" which gives you and idea of how low it will hang.

Start this project and when you have completed Round 5, the diameter (measure across the circle) should be close to 4 1/4". If it is more, start over with a smaller hook; If it is smaller, start over with a larger hook. Gauge is very important in this project for fit across the back and the collar to look great. Directions are provided to make larger as you progress. Basic Skills Necessary: Chain Single Crochet Double Crochet Treble Crochet Skip Slip Stitch
