This pattern is written for knitting on the loom, but it can be knit in the round on regular DPN's or circular needles.

The full pattern is published here, but if you would like to download it, simply add it to your cart and check out, you will have the option to download it then, and it will also be emailed to you.

The hat size, when laying flat is 7 ½ inches long by 4 inches wide. It stretches out to about 13 inches in diameter, which makes it a preemie or newborn size hat. The gauge is 21 stiches and 29 rows = 4 inches in K2, P2 rib pattern, so if you're knitting, you can use whatever yarn weight and needles size you want to get that gauge.

When working on the loom, for larger baby and toddler hats you'll want to use a bulky or super bulky yarn, and still use every peg on the loom. To make the hat longer if you want more slouch just continue the pattern.

The sample shown is made in Landscapes worsted weight yarn and was thick enough to create a preemie hat. You can get your Baby Knitting Loom here if you don't already have one.

This pattern is both written and includes a chart, and there is a video below where I show you all the techniques step by step, so you can work from whichever suits you best.

You can also modify this pattern for use with the kids or adult size looms, simply repeat the pattern around and modify the length of the hat as follows:

Baby- 6 ½” - 7 ½

Kids- 7”-8”

Woman- 8 ½” - 9 ½

Man- 9”- 9 ¾

All the cable crosses in this hat are Cable 2 Back crosses, which means its a cable over 2 pegs, and leans to the right.

Pegs are laid out as follows: Left Peg -Right Peg

Remove stitch from Right Peg and hold it on a cable or darning needle.

Transfer the loop from Left Peg to the now empty Right Peg.

Place the loop from the cable needle back on the loom on the emptied Left Peg. Knit those two pegs, and continue around your loom.

To finish this hat there's no need to bind off. Cut your working end yarn, leaving about a 4 inch tail. Cut yourself 12” or more of yarn, and thread it into a darning needle. Then working around your loom, with your darning needle pick up the stitches off your pegs, and onto the needle pushing them along as you go. Once you have all the stitches off the pegs and onto your yarn tie the ends together as tightly as you can scrunching the top of the hat closed. Then tie your 4” tail into this to secure it. Trim the yarn ends.
